Duke Sizemore here, and the NBA just dropped a HAMMER on the Clippers — Steve Ballmer suspended, draft capital stripped, and a gigantic fine! Here’s what we’ve got today: the Clippers penalty bombshell, Denver’s ugly Minnesota scar, and a preseason market staying absolutely frozen.
Okay okay okay, start in Los Angeles. The NBA has suspended Clippers owner Steve Ballmer for ONE YEAR after finding salary-cap circumvention violations involving Kawhi Leonard. And that is only the beginning: five future first-round picks forfeited and a THIRTY-MILLION-DOLLAR fine. Five first-rounders! Thirty million dollars! Those are sweeping penalties, and they are easily the biggest fresh development on today’s board.
But here’s the key distinction: COURT VISION has no qualifying day-over-day power movers. None. So however enormous that Clippers news is, the data does NOT yet support claiming a market reaction. And with the title-race snapshot stale and Summer League producing no new games, I’m not dressing up old numbers as new action.
Now Denver — THIS is where the recent results get rough. The Nuggets carry a 57-and-32 record into this preseason context and rank seventh at a 1581 preseason Elo, but their spotlight data shows a negative 38.3-point recent swing. Against Minnesota across six listed games, Denver went two-and-four. They opened that stretch at 1663 Elo and finished at 1625.
Look at the losses: 114-119, then 96-113, then 96-112. Denver answered with a 125-113 win, but Minnesota closed the stretch by beating them 110-98. That sequence left a real statistical bruise heading into the offseason picture.
And Denver did make a roster move worth tracking: the Nuggets matched Oklahoma City’s fully guaranteed two-year, $12 million offer sheet to restricted free agent Spencer Jones.
That is your COURT VISION Daily Brief: massive league discipline in L.A., no measurable power-board movement yet, and Denver carrying some Minnesota damage into the preseason numbers. I’m Duke Sizemore, and I will catch you tomorrow!
