Okay okay okay, start with the trade! The Jazz send Cody Williams and John Konchar to Minnesota for Josh Green and cash considerations. Williams was the number-ten pick in the 2024 draft, and reports say Minnesota expects to keep him while waiving and stretching Konchar. Utah’s market-blended rating responds by dropping 1.3 points to 1450.2. It is September second, the next confirmed game isn’t until October third, but roster construction does not wait for opening night!
Now THIS market move has my attention. The Clippers jump 5.8 points in a day to a 1310 market Elo—the biggest move on the board! And that is happening against some rough news: Jordan Miller’s shoulder injury is projected to keep him out until at least March first, while the NBA inquiry involving the Clippers and Kawhi Leonard could extend into 2027. Indiana is up 5 points to 1562.6, and Dallas gains 3.8 to 1346.3 alongside Naji Marshall’s three-year, 52.2-million-dollar extension.
Then there’s Boston. Oh, what a tug-of-war! Their prior-season finish included three straight losses to Philadelphia—113-97, 106-93, 109-100—and a 38.9-point recent Elo downswing. But since August 29, Boston’s market Elo is UP three points to 1663.4. Jordan Walsh gets a three-year, 15-million-dollar extension, Jayson Tatum is day-to-day with knee soreness, and the preseason model still has Boston fourth at 1636.8. Cold finish, warmer market. Keep both pieces of that picture in your head.
And one quick trip under the hood: for the model’s October 20 Detroit-Boston walkthrough, Detroit gets a 109-point Elo gap including home court, producing a 65.23 percent base probability. Tatum’s current day-to-day tag barely changes it, and the final number is 65.24 percent. Detroit—65.24 after every adjustment!
