Okay, okay, okay, Dallas first, because this is movement with a giant asterisk. The Mavericks climb 12.2 points to a 1338.7 market Elo, alongside the news that Naji Marshall has agreed to a three-year, 52.2-million-dollar extension. But zoom out to August 25 and Dallas is still DOWN 0.6. That makes today’s surge a partial reversal, not proof of some established new direction. Context, baby!
Now THIS is the part that has my attention: Atlanta. The Hawks are up 9.6 since yesterday and 9.7 since August 25, reaching a 1552.6 market Elo. But the last basketball evidence we have tells a very different story. Atlanta ended its prior-season window with THREE straight losses to New York. The finale? One-forty to eighty-nine! That single game knocked 30.3 points off their spotlight Elo, and the recent window finished with Atlanta down 50.1 overall. So the market is showing more enthusiasm now, but it is pricing that on top of a COLD finish.
Elsewhere, New Orleans owns the day’s biggest gain at plus 14.2, reaching 1274.3. Utah jumps 9.1 to 1452.7. And then there’s Los Angeles: the Clippers plunge NINETEEN points in one day to 1298.4, down 20.8 since August 25. Their listed title probability is 0.14 percent, while the news backdrop includes an NBA inquiry involving the Clippers and Kawhi Leonard. That is the biggest negative move today, and I mean THAT board is moving!
Remember, though: this is preseason market action, not new regular-season results. Summer League has no fresh games in this feed, and the title-race board is stale, so I’m not selling you yesterday’s numbers as today’s news. The next confirmed game is Miami at Toronto on October 3.
